The former Maharashtra chief minister, Manohar Joshi, passed away on a Friday morning due to health problems associated with ageing. With his death, a chapter in Maharashtra’s political history came to a close. Former Maharashtra chief minister Manohar Joshi passed away at around 3 am on Friday due to age-related health complications. He was 86.P D Hinduja Hospital chief operating officer Joy Chakravarty confirmed the news.

Early Life and Education and Manohar Joshi’s journey

Born on December 2, 1937, in Mahad, Maharashtra, Manohar Joshi’s journey began humbly. Despite facing economic hardships in Nandvi village of Raigad district, he pursued his education diligently. Joshi obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the prestigious Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) in Mumbai.

The fight for jobs was the first step in the Shiv Sena’s quest for Marathi manooos. Joshi felt that they needed to be employed as skilled labourers as well, and his institute was very important in this.
“He contested the first elections of BMC polls in 1986 and three corporators of Sena won,” stated Diwakar Raote, Joshi’s party comrade. He chaired a standing committee before taking office as mayor in 1976. In the 1980s, he entered state politics.


After he was elected to the state legislature, his strong ties to Mumbai and his understanding of a range of development issues enabled him to vigorously advocate for the city’s interests in the years that followed. In 1995, Joshi took over as chief minister after the Shiv Sena and BJP partnership

Manohar Joshi’s political zenith arrived in 1995 when he assumed the mantle of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, a historic moment for the Shiv Sena. His tenure witnessed significant strides, including the implementation of the slum rehabilitation scheme, a brainchild of Shiv Sena’s founder, Bal Thackeray.
